Has Baseball Struck Out?

Can the major leagues be majorly greedy?

So here the fans sit waiting to hear what "America's Pastime" has in store for them in the next couple of days, and here they sit wanting to hear news that there will be games this weekend, wanting to hear that baseball will continue to be played through the end of August, and wanting to believe the players union, and it's players are good people. Seemingly, they aren't, and as I sit here typing this editorial looking for a good aspect as to why this is even going on, I just can't help but think that these greedy sons of bitches need to be put down.

Let me get this straight, you play professional baseball that millions upon millions of people watch every day, wear your name on jerseys that they paid $30 dollars more than they are worth, and are worshiped by more children than any other sport combined, and you still want more money? You are a greedy SOB. You get to play a game that everyone loves and your unhappy because you can't buy the latest Jag or knock up more whores than the old Charlie Sheen? Boo-hoo for you, what this has to show is you just don't care any more about the game, all you care about is the money, and when it comes to the fans, you just assume piss on them and get paid.

Baseball was conceived as a sport in which the respect between the two teams at war equaling or canceling out the unsportsmanlike conduct of some players, it is a gentleman's sports of true athletes with true power and you prefer to tarnish it's name on account of a paycheck? I won't let you do that, we, the fans, won't let you do that because when you come back from the the impending strike and want to play again, what makes you think I will still want to see your worthless ass run across that field?

I could never see why companies never chose to have unions, working for Wal-Mart for over two years taught me that when something goes wrong you have to deal with things on your own, be a grown up, this is the real world, after all. With a union, such as the Player's Union in Baseball, you don't like something? Go cry to mommy and get your job back, not getting paid enough, then strike and show the boss just how important he is to everyone. I think they have a name for this, oh yeah, communism.

So your next argument is that you don't want to be taxed for the money that you earn? Hell I'm a single male supporting myself with a car, apartment, internet, website, etc. and the government takes more than I will ever see form my paycheck every month, you don't see me complaining, you don't see me living in my phat Palatino estate and drinking wine from my wife's shoe.

With all this talk about a strike it has me wondering if there is anything worth watching in the game after this is all over. Do I really want to watch highly paid "athletes" run around the field with gold plated teeth (well I would if someone would beat Barry Bonds with a bat, but that isn't going to happen). I liked baseball when I didn't have to wonder day to day if there would be games tomorrow. I liked it when I could watch a master like Randy Johnson take the mound and pitch an awesome game and see my Diamondbacks make a run for another World Series Championship.

I like baseball, and I liked the players, but as we inch closer to Friday (the deadline) it has me wondering if I can ever respect the sport, and those who play it professionally, again.
